Reflection 5

The fifth week of our lecture session is where we are discussing about test construction, multiple-choice test and also competency assessment.  These topics are elaborated where all of them is really important in constructing children's development. We were told how to construct a test by their categories which are fill in the blank, match the Alphabets or Numbers to the picture, true or false and essay.

Next, the lecturer ask us about formative and summative assessment. By the notes that I have written, formative assessment is for learning. It is taken at varying intervals throughout a course to provide information and feedback that will help improve the quality of student learning and course itself. Next, summative assessment is also for learning. It is generally taken by students at the end of a unit or semester to demonstrate the sum of what they have or have not learned. The methods of summative assessment are the most traditional way of evaluating student work.

By this lecture session, I understand that student should share what they learned towards their peers. It is important to make the teachers' sampling went well and ease them to record the children's development in  a time. Moreover, the development of the children themselves will be meaningful when they further their next stage of education. Thank You.

Reflection 4

In this week, which was week 4, Mr David has elaborated to us about techniques on recording the behavior. There are four techniques that is being pointed out by Mr David which are

  • Duration
  • Frequency
  • Interval (Time Sampling)
  • Continuous
For duration, it is elaborated that how long the behavior lasts. Frequency is how frequently the behavior occurs, Interval which was target behaviors of each subject during set period time and Continuous is what all behaviors of the subject that.

Duration Recording
  • HOW IT WORKS ; The researcher records the length of time that a behavior occurs
  • EXAMPLE ; How much time is spent in verbal interaction between two children?
Frequency Recording
  • HOW IT WORKS ; The researcher records the number of times a behavior occurs
  • EXAMPLE ; How often are question asked?
Interval Recording
  • HOW IT WORKS ; The researcher observes a subject for a fixed amount of time
  • EXAMPLE ; Within a 60-second period, how many times do members of the group talk to another person?

Continuous Recording
  • HOW IT WORKS ; The researcher records everything that happens
  • EXAMPLE ; During a 1-hour period, all the behavior of a 6-year-old boy is recorded

More than that, we were also explained about how to develop good questionnaire. In making questionnaire, it deals with a significant topic, one the respondent will recognize as important. Next, it seeks only the information which cannot be obtained from other sources. It is also short as possible and attractive in appearance, neatly arranged, and clearly duplicated or printed. And last, the directions are clear and complete. Thank You.

Reflection 3

We made it to the third week of our lecture session. In this session, we were described about reliability and validity. What is reliability and validity?

Reliability

Reliability is the degree to which an assessment tool produces stable and consistent results. Types of Reliability. Test-retest reliability is a measure of reliability obtained by administering the same test twice over a period of time to a group of individuals.

Validity

Validity is the extent to which a test measures what it claims to measure. It is vital for a test to be valid in order for the results to be accurately applied and interpreted.

while...

A test is valid if it measures what it is supposed to measure. If the results of the personality test claimed that a very shy person was in fact outgoing, the test would be invalid. Reliability and validity are independent of each other. A measurement maybe valid but not reliable, or reliable but not valid.

From the lesson that Mr David has given to us, it is important to measure the students limits before giving them any work or any task. It is also important to make sure that the target of children education should given a proper observation. Or it may be not efficient for the children. This is why reliability and validity is one of the stem of success in children's development.

Reflection 2

The second week of our lecture session is where Mr David gave us a worksheet for children. The picture above resemble the worksheet that has been given to us for the past weeks. Since the worksheet that been given are lost (sorry Mr David) , I managed to search the worksheet that does not run from the point of the lesson.

In this lesson, I understand that teachers should not give early student such as the preschool children a complex worksheet. Children should learn from bottom to the top. Children are soft learner which needs to be given explanation over and over again. Giving worksheets that are suitable for their age are one of the method to view the children's development. Moreover, in this class, as teachers, we should give the children proper examination as their development of brains and sensory motors.

Not only the teachers will have their own creativity to create works for children, the children will have fun in learning and recognizing the work that have been given. Thank you

Reflection 1

Based on my notes of the first week in Assessment in Education class, our lecturer, Mr David Lumbok has given us an ice breaking about the subject. He gives a fresh explanation on how to score in this subject and has given us task of reflecting ourselves in pursuing education.

The questions are

When You are Success
When You Failed
When You were Proud of Your Achievement
Wen You are Disappointed with Your Performance

We were told to draw about all of those question that being given. It was really hard to manage myself to reflect my success and failure. It was really hard to move on from failed to success. But hey, I managed to wake up and be one of the student that my teacher are proud of. Then, we were told to do a "Gallery Walk" to show our drawing to the entire class.

My reflection about this class session is, even though how hard you tried, there will always one thing come to our life. Which is success or failure. BUT, if you don't know what is failure, then you don't know how to change wrong things to the right path. Thank You.

Myself, Philosophy and Goals of Life

Bismillahirahmanirrahim. Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Hello. This is my Assessment in Education ePortfolio assignment. This is where I share about myself, philosophy and goals in my life. This is also where I introduced my thought about the next level of education that I will be using in the future. The main purpose of creating those integration of education is to make our future to be more educated and more think full generation.

Hello again. My name is Nur Sarah Jenysah Binti Jais. I just turned 22 on 9th April and I come from Lahad Datu, Sabah. I hold SB1409BD7903 as my matrix card number and I really love reading and writing. I also share like to share stories and I have my own personal blog.

My philosophy of education will be sincere in giving education to the next generation. Some teacher nowadays treat their students unequally. Some teachers wants to pursue their profession because of the amount of the salary. Not because of want to give the generation well educations. That is why a lot of students being tortured physical and mental. By physical, the teacher are harsh to the children. They hit the children with books in the head when the student cannot answer their questions. By my own experience, I have being canned because the teacher cannot give me the chance to finish my answer and the answer is not completed. ( Padahal jawapan yang saya jawab sama sahaja dalam buku -.-“)

This is why I arranged my goals in life to give the next generation a sincere education. Just like normal people, they need to take time to insert the education inside our mind. Every children has their own limits. We also had our own experience of becoming a child. We also takes time to received information. Why do we need to force the other children to know about something? Besides, the government already provide KSPK and rules how to teach children step by step.
As the next educator, even though I will give sincere education to the next generation, I will never do anything without any reference. This is to avoid other teachers to make the same mistake if any mistakes occurs. I do also hope that our generation who want to pursue their profession are sincere and not taking anything for granted.

Thank you.
